1.25G SFP Dual-Fiber

The HIPHOTONICS 1.25G SFP Dual-Fiber Optical Transceiver is a compact, high-performance optical module designed for Gigabit Ethernet and 1G Fibre Channel applications. It provides reliable bidirectional data transmission over two optical fibers, making it an ideal solution for enterprise networks, telecommunications infrastructure, video surveillance, and network access systems.

The module supports a data rate of up to 1.25Gbps and is available in multiple transmission distances, wavelengths, fiber types, and temperature grades to meet different network deployment requirements. Typical 1.25G dual-fiber SFP configurations use a duplex LC interface and 1310nm optics for single-mode transmission.

Dual-Fiber Optical Transmission

Unlike BiDi SFP modules that transmit and receive over a single fiber, the 1.25G Dual-Fiber SFP uses two separate optical fibers:

  • Fiber 1: TX — optical transmission
  • Fiber 2: RX — optical reception

This duplex architecture provides a straightforward and widely deployed solution for connecting Gigabit Ethernet switches, routers, media converters, and other optical network equipment.

Flexible Transmission Distances

The actual transmission distance depends on the selected optical budget, fiber attenuation, connectors, splices, and overall link loss. Commercial 1.25G dual-fiber modules are available in configurations such as 10km and 20km over 9/125μm single-mode fiber.

Multiple Wavelength Options

Different wavelengths can be selected according to the required transmission distance and fiber configuration.

Common configurations include:

  • 850nm — typically used for multimode short-distance applications
  • 1310nm — widely used for single-mode Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1550nm — suitable for extended-reach applications

For example, a 1000BASE-LX 1.25G module can use 1310nm optics and support up to 10km or 20km over single-mode fiber depending on the optical design.

DDM / DOM Monitoring

The optional Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM/DOM) function enables network administrators to monitor key operating parameters through the host equipment.

Depending on the selected module, monitored parameters can include:

  • Module temperature
  • Supply voltage
  • Laser bias current
  • Transmit optical power
  • Receive optical power

This provides additional visibility for network maintenance and troubleshooting. 1.25G commercial SFP modules with DDM are available for 1000BASE-LX applications.

MSA-Compatible Design

The module is designed around the standard SFP form factor and can be supplied with SFP MSA-compatible EEPROM and interface configurations.
