Designed to either mix or separate optical signals in the 1310 nm and 1550 nm bands, fused single mode wavelength division multiplexers (WDM) Strong quality standards and proven fused biconical taper technology are used in fabrication of these multiplexers. With very low polarisation sensitivity and little excess loss, they present low insertion loss and flat passband.

Absence of passband flatness, isolation, and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) defines the optical performance of WDM. WSMs are the perfect solution for uses requiring minimum signal distortion since their low insertion loss and flat passband. Additionally low excess loss on the devices guarantees that signal attenuation is maintained to a minimum.

WDM has a very low polarisation sensitivity, hence the multiplexers are insensitive to variations in the polarisation state of arriving light. Applications include dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems depend on this capability where polarization-dependent signal loss cannot be tolerated.

Any optical communication system depends mostly on dependability, so WDM are made to satisfy strict standards. Rigid environmental and mechanical testing over a variety of temperatures and humidity levels helps the devices to fully comply with Telcordia GR-1221 criteria.
Optical communication systems depend critically on fused single mode wavelength division multiplexers.
